Cloning

Cloning has been an integral part in duplicating individuals in life. Cloning is to produce a group of organisms from another organism to which it is genetically identical. There are three types of cloning, recombinant DNA technology or DNA cloning, reproductive cloning, and therapeutic cloning.
The phrase ecombinant DNA technology?and NA cloning?is the process of transferring a DNA fragment of interest from one organism to make an exact copy of genetic. To clone a gone, a DNA particle holding the gene is isolated from chromosomal DNA using enzymes and then reunites with a plasmid that has been cut with the same enzymes.
Reproductive cloning is another type of cloning. It uses a technology that generates animals that has the same nuclear DNA as another current or previous existing animal. An example of it was Dolly the sheep. It was the first mammal that was cloned from DNA and got killed put down by an injection on February 14, 2003. Dolly has also have been suffering from lung cancer and crippling arthritis (stiffness of the joints). Dolly clone creation is a great success and it is truly extraordinary. After cloning Dolly, scientists have also tried cloning many other species such as sheep, goats, cows, mice, pigs, cats, rabbits, and a gaur.
Another kind of cloning is called Therapeutic cloning which is also known as mbryo cloning? Their goal of this process is not to just create cloned human beings, but to produce stem cells that can help scientists find ways to treat diseases. Stem cells are really important to biomedical researchers because it can be used to make any type of specialized cells in the human body. Many researchers also hope that one day stem cells can be used to cure heart disease, cancer, and other diseases.
In November 2001, scientists and researchers from Advanced Cell Technologies (ACT), a biotechnology company in Massachusetts, announced that they had cloned the first human embryos for advance research of therapeutic. To clone human embryos, they collected eggs from women ovaries and then removed the genetic substance from these eggs. Then a skin cell was putted inside the surgically removed egg to operate as a new nucleus. After that, the egg begins to divide and would be motivated with a chemical called ionomycin. Although this process was brought out with eight eggs, only three began dividing, and only one was able to divide into six cells before stopping, the results of it was a success.
In my conclusion, I think cloning is a great success but I still think it is too risky to do this experiment with human beings especially with therapeutic cloning. Therapeutic cloning is expensive and highly risky. Scientists and researchers haven had enough information yet to do human cloning because of the different genes and DNA.
